Spoiler Alert 🚨
I’m going to begin this post by saying this is the movie of all time and if you disagree respectfully go back to another blog post of mine 😮💨.
Let’s start with the simplicity of the name ‘The Menu’ a clean, attractive, and authentic movie title, it’s almost like the movie is calling you to come in and experience it. When I first suggested the film to my friend he looked at me and asked me to look at the score on Rotten Tomatoes, I looked at him and just glared being the film student I am, I don't value reviews as much as I like to do some research before I go to the movies.
I like observing the characters, the plots, and what kind of movies the actors have starred in previously and their background in the industry. A successful movie, in my opinion, is one with respected actors not necessarily A-listers but actors that have taken part in authentic movies with strong storylines. After reading more about the producer; Mark Mylod and the writer I later discovered that the film was partially inspired by an experience Mylod had whilst on vacation in Norway a few years ago.
The film focuses on a unique dining experience that later on progresses to become the epitome of food horror, not even an actual genre but this is what I felt when I was watching the movie, Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) invites 10 guests from affluent backgrounds for a ‘once in a lifetime dining experience on his private island. As we approach the beginning of the movie we are met with guests who are ungrateful for the detail and effort put into the experience. They are then met with their skeletons in the closet and disciplined by the head chef with every meal placed in front of them.
My favorite scene from the movie featured my favorite dish ‘tacos’ 🌮 only these were deconstructed, each tortilla had a laser engraving highlighting each diner’s darkest secrets from a family scandal to money laundering the diners were left in awe, this scene marked the beginning of chaos in the movie.
To conclude the movie was incredible, in my eyes, it takes the title for being the best movie of all time for me. I was intrigued by the details, the costumes, the interior, the location, and the choice of actors 10/10!
